The PCB surface requires welding elements, and some copper layers are required to be exposed to welding. These exposed copper layers are called pads. The pads are generally rectangular or round, with small area.
In the above, we know that the copper used in PCB is very easy to be oxidized, so after brushing the welded paint, the copper exposed to the air is the copper on the pad.
If the copper on the pad is oxidized, it is not only difficult to weld, but the resistivity increases greatly, which seriously affects the performance of the final product. Therefore, the engineers came up with various methods to protect the pads. For example, an inert metal gold is plated, or a layer of silver is covered through the chemical process on the surface, or the copper layer is covered with a special chemical film to prevent the pads and air from contacting.
The pads exposed on the PCB are exposed directly. This part needs to be protected to prevent it from being oxidized.
